Brenda Kolbow, PLS has joined the Survey Department of the MSC division of TFMoran, Inc. in Portsmouth. Ms. Kolbow is a Professional Land Surveyor in the states of Maine and North Carolina. She serves as a Survey Project Manager and is responsible for the management and coordination of survey projects with internal staff, clients, contractors, and regulatory officials from proposal through the completion of construction. Her field skills include boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction layout and as-built surveys, along with total station data collection and GPS static and kinetic observations. Ms. Kolbow has an Associate’s degree in Surveying Technology from Western Piedmont Community College in North Carolina.

TFMoran Promoting a Career in Land Surveying at NH Construction Career Days
On September 17th, TFMoran’s Chief of Survey, Jim O’Neil, LLS was on hand, as a member of the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association (NHLSA) at New Hampshire Construction Career Days . The event was held at the Hillsborough County 4-H Youth Center in New Boston. Over 1,600 students from nearly 50 NH High Schools attended, along with over 60 exhibitors! New Hampshire Construction Career Days is a non-profit organization which brings students together with the Construction & Transportation Industries to explore career options through hands-on activities. The hands-on activity the NHLSA promoted Angle & Distance estimation incorporated with basic Deed Description retracement. TFMoran Promotes A Career in Land Surveying through a board that was displayed at the fair, and handing out hard hat decals.
Other categories of construction careers include General Contractors, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Civil Engineering, Operating Heavy Equipment, Truck Driving, Tree Work, Safety Education, and Apprenticeships through Education.
Some of the heavy equipment on-site for demonstrations included backhoes, skid steers, excavators, graders, loaders, man lifts, plow trucks, and truck mounted cranes. Once again this exciting two day event expects to lead some of NH’s high-school students into various paths of the construction industry.

Vida attends Revit® Technology Conference in DC
The Revit Technology Conference (RTC) is a networking and learning experience that is held annually in North America, as well as, three other continents. RTC has been going on for several years now and the conference attracts many people from across the country because it is a conference for users, by users! The 2015 Conference was held in July near Washington D.C. and was attended by more than 500 registrants, making it the largest North American conference to date (until next year!). The conference is full of Architects, Structural Engineers, MEP Engineers, Revit power users, Revit beginners, Revit bloggers, BIM directors, company leaders, draftspersons, Autodesk, and third-party Revit vendors. In order to learn more about Revit and build a network of contacts to share ideas with, TFMoran sent Robert Vida, a Project Structural Engineer and resident BIM (Building Information Modeling) director, to this year’s RTC.
In Robert’s own words:
“It was a very inspirational and insightful event. It was extremely motivating to be surrounded by fellow Revit® lovers and to see all the advanced tools and techniques being used in the industry currently to push the bounds of efficiency, quality, and possibility. The most rewarding part of the conference was the practicality of all the sessions and presentations that I was able to attend. It is hard to imagine a three-day conference where each session is relevant to your specific profession and also your position in that profession, but RTC had multiple presentations to choose from per session and there was always something interesting and useful to learn in at least one of them. Having now returned from the conference, I am excited to share what I’ve learned with my coworkers and push towards building our Revit standards and training within the company. Together, I am confident that TFM will become a regional leader in BIM/Revit capabilities and will be better able to serve the needs of our clients!”
As you can see from the photos, Rob made a little time for sightseeing in between sessions. Of course the White House tops the list, and a close second is the New Hampshire granite column at the WWII Memorial at the National Mall.

DACON AND PROLOGIS COMPLETE 614,000 S/F NORTHEAST LOGISTICS CENTER FOR UPS AND PRATT & WHITNEY
Londonderry, NH – The official dedication and ribbon cutting of the new facility is scheduled in October 2015.
As the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport grew larger and busier in recent years, a large swath of land just off Raymond Wieczorek Dr. to the south sat conspicuously empty. It remained that way until Prologis and Dacon Corp. teamed with a number of key partners, including civil engineering firm TF Moran to start work on a plan to convert the once-fallow 50-acre plot into a thriving center of commerce. The Prologis project, at 52 Pettengill Rd., is now a 614,000 s/f, high-bay distribution center for United Parcel Service, Supply Chain Solutions and jet engine manufacturer Pratt &Whitney. The new facility, which sits just adjacent to the airport, is a welcome addition to the burgeoning travel and shipping center, and one that will benefit both the immediate Londonderry/Manchester area and the greater southern New Hampshire region.
“At full capacity, this project will bring upwards of 400 well-paying jobs to the area,” said Chuck Reilly of Dacon. “When you consider that land was used for agricultural grazing and sat undeveloped, and within a 15 month period, there’s been almost one million s/f of development – including the Federal Express Ground facility developed by Scannell Properties of Indianapolis, Indiana just to the north of us – it’s a huge economic engine for Londonderry and the Manchester airport area.”
Construction on the building – a conventional, high bay steel and precast concrete panel building with approximately 24,000 s/f of office space, 400 parking spaces and room for as many as 100 tractor trailers – started in July of 2014. UPS and Pratt & Whitney are currently in the process of occupying the new facility. The building has 100% backup generation power and is almost 100% automated for pick and pack warehouse operations. The entire project was completed on schedule and on budget. Dacon provided design, engineering, and construction management on a design-build basis with in-house architectural and engineering services.
Completion of the project has allowed Londonderry to see Pettengill Rd. finally completed, connecting Raymond Wieczorek Dr. to Industrial Dr., which had been in town planning for over a decade.
Several key partners were involved in the project, including Denver-based developer Prologis, civil engineers, TFMoran and Continental Paving, who Reilly described as “absolutely key partners.” He also credited the town of Londonderry and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport management with being instrumental in allowing the project to remain on schedule regarding permitting and approvals.

TFMoran Hosts August Network PM for Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce
TFMoran proudly celebrated hosting the Greater Manchester of Commerce Network PM event for the 19th consecutive year on Thursday, August 20th. Over 200 chamber members, guests, TFMoran staff, and their families enjoyed an amazing summer barbecue on the front lawn of the Bedford office. “Growing Business in New Hampshire” was this year’s theme and it focused on some TFMoran’s projects over the last year. These projects include a major new distribution center, a new manufacturing facility, a Whole Foods market, a new University library, a grand hotel, and many multi-family residences. TFMoran’s engineers, surveyors and landscape architects were on hand to talk about our recent projects and how we play a critical role in growing New Hampshire’s economy.
The Wine’ing Butcher did a great job grilling steak tips, burgers and dogs, while The Inside Scoop topped off dinner with their delicious ice cream, and it was a perfect night for ice cream! The Royal Bouquet had two beautiful flower arrangements that were included in the door prizes. All three businesses are located at the French-Atwood Marketplace in Bedford.
The Chamber president Michael Skelton introduced Dylan Cruess, TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer, who welcomed everyone and acknowledged the TFM staff for their hard work in making this event a success.

Jeremy Belanger joins TFMoran’s Civil Engineering Department
Jeremy Belanger, EIT was recently hired to serve as a Civil Project Engineer in TFMoran’s Bedford office. Jeremy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources from the University of New Hampshire. Jeremy’s work experience includes hydrolic and hydropower generation analysis, dam removal feasibility and design, and FEMA flood plain mapping.

Jonathan Nadeau, EIT has recently joined TFM’s Structural Engineering Department. Jon has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Structural focus from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell. His related coursework included Advanced Steel Design, Advanced Strength of Materials, Behavior of Concrete Structures, Design of Wood Structures, Structural Dynamics and Stability.

John “Jack” McTigue, EIT, has joined the MSC division of TFMoran in Portsmouth, NH as a Civil Project Engineer. Jack has over twenty years experience in the civil engineering and survey fields, including roadway design, site development, and project management.
