TFM Portsmouth’s Christmas Party

TFMoran’s Portsmouth office really got in the Christmas spirit today, at the staff Christmas party.  The Santa Hat decorating contest was a lot of fun, along with the Secret Santa Gift Swap.

There was plenty of warm holiday food to go around, from baked ham with pineapple stuffing, brown-sugared carrots, and meatballs, to veggie, fruit and cheese platters, and a wreath salad. Santa hat brownies and turtle cheesecake was a great way to end the holiday lunch. And, plenty of leftovers for tomorrow.

We wish everyone a safe and joyous Christmas holiday, and a Happy New Year.

TFMoran’s office will be closed on Monday, December 26th.

TFM’s Annual Company Harvest Lunch kicks off the Holiday Season

TFMoran held its annual company gathering, known as the “Harvest Lunch”, on the day before Thanksgiving in the Great Hall at the Bedford Village Inn.  The MSC Portsmouth division staff joined the Bedford staff for a full company gathering of more than 60 people! Thank you to the Bedford Village Inn for the amazing food and fantastic venue.

After lunch, TFMoran President Robert Duval wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and shared his thoughts on all of the good things to be thankful for over the past year. First, thanking the team for their combined hard work for another strong year of growth. TFM’s team has grown to 62, including 8 people who joined the Company in 2016. He thanked each of TFM’s groups individually, noting specific achievements for each group over the past year. To name a few, the civil group has designed the largest projects in the Towns of Bedford and Londonderry, NH; the group of 10 structural engineers lead in Revit®, the most advanced building modeling software and continue to expand into new service areas, high-rise buildings, and other complex structures; and the survey group is no longer only support for engineering, 75% of their work is solely surveying projects.

In closing, President Duval said, “I am very proud of our recent accomplishments. We have successfully taken on many difficult projects with aggressive schedules. We have honed our teamwork abilities and kept our focus on meeting our clients’ needs. We continue to be responsible corporate and individual citizens.  Our reputation grows each time we meet or exceed our clients’ expectations. Thank you to all of us for another successful year, as we look forward with increased confidence to the year ahead.”

Dylan Cruess, COO also addressed the team, noting additional company achievements including the 2016 NH Business Review “Best of Business” Award, and Business NH Magazine’s  “2016 Business of the Year” Award.

The principals were very happy to give out bonuses to all the staff to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the Company.  It was a great beginning to the Thanksgiving holiday break, as folks headed home to spend time with their families.

TFMoran participates in “Canstruction” competition to benefit NH Food Bank

September is “Hunger Action Month” when Food Banks nationwide urge businesses to take action in their communities. Thus, for the second consecutive year, TFMoran was up for the challenge to enter the “Canstruction Competition”. TFM’s COO Dylan Cruess led the way in assembling a Canstruction Team (Dylan Cruess, Mark Chamberlain, Maryanne Murray, Jennifer Porter, Asim Azam, and Adam Jimenez) to start the brainstorming process in mid-August. The team agreed on a 3 dimensional apple tree, which was first configured on digital graph paper, then in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Then it was time for the shopping to begin – looking for the best colored labels, can sizes and quantities. Nearly 500 cans of different sizes, 18 boxes and miscellaneous jars and bars filled one of the TFMoran company jeeps. Food items included baked beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, green beans, mixed-vegetables, brown sugar, pink beans, macaroni & cheese, spaghetti, lasagna, whole grain penne rigate, tea bags, spices, and chocolate bars.

Lunch hours were spent in TFM’s reception area, devoted to carefully building the structure from the bottom up until the last “leaf” (can of green beans) was placed. And, just to add a little excitement to the apple tree, why not canstruct a man sitting underneath it? So, a man made of cans, boxes, pink beans, spices and chocolate was canstructed topped off with a TFM hard hat. The final photos were taken and sent in to Lisa at the NH Food Bank, and the judges viewed can creation on September 27th. They expressed their deep appreciation for TFM’s contribution, and told us a little more about the hunger crisis in New Hampshire, and what NH Food Bank does to help.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the community, while having fun with co-workers, TFM is glad to be a part of this worthwhile competition. We are excited to see what other companies have designed for this great cause!

A Dream Come True for a TFMoran Surveyor’s Son

Congratulations to Richard Ward, Jr., who entered and won the 2016 Congressional Art Competition for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, for his graphite drawing of a young woman, entitled “Inspiring Opportunities”. Richard lives in Boscawen, New Hampshire and attends Merrimack Valley High School, class of 2017.  His proud father, one of TFMoran’s Survey Field Technicians, Richard Ward, Sr., shared this great news with TFMoran. Richard’s dream come true is to travel to Washington, DC this summer to attend the artist’s reception at the White House, and see his award-winning artwork hung in the U.S. Capitol. Richard created an “Inspiring Opportunities Fund” to raise money for his travel expenses to and from DC;  for art materials, and to participate in the NH Institute of Art Summer Program. TFMoran is a long-time supporter of the arts, and proudly contributed to help make Richard’s dream a reality.

As explained on the website of the competition host, Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster, “Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent across the nation and right here in New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District.  The Congressional Art Competition was established in 1982, in order to encourage Members of Congress to recognize the artistic accomplishments of young community members in their districts. Since then, hundreds of thousands of students have participated in competitions all across the country.”

As a result of the Congressional Award, Richard was awarded a merit scholarship to Kimball Jenkins School of Art  and a $1,000 scholarship towards the New Hampshire Institute of Art Intensive Summer Program. Other achievements include Merrimack Valley High School Academic Excellence Certificate for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher; a Medallion recognizing excellence in fine arts; and the Merrimack Valley Excellence in Fine Arts plaque; a Gold Key Award and Honorable Mention Award from Scholastic.

TFMoran wishes Richard great success in his art career, and a very memorable trip to the White House!
