Dylan Cruess selected for 40 Under Forty Class of 2018

Congratulations to TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer, Dylan Cruess on his appearance in the 2018 “40 Under Forty” Young Professionals segment in the New Hampshire Union Leader. The acknowledgement is an annual segment in the New Hampshire Union Leader that praises young, working professionals for having made professional and personal contributions to make New Hampshire a better place to live and work.

By featuring these 40 young professionals from New Hampshire, potential young employees would be encouraged to apply for jobs in New Hampshire and stay in the area. The feature entails a question-answer segment with the recipient, giving advice and insight on their designated field. The articles also allow the featured young professional to get a little personal and explain how they got into their profession.

TFMoran Congratulates Dylan and the other 39 young professionals who made the 2018 list!

Dylan R. Cruess • 38 • Bedford
Principal and Chief Operating Officer, TFMoran, Inc.

Why did you choose your profession?
The short answer is that engineering was my family business. I have
been involved with TFMoran in various capacities since I was 10. At
first I didn’t think I was going to join the firm; I interviewed at several
places in Boston and New York, but after weighing all the different
factors, being close to my family and the quality of life in New Hampshire
drew me back.

What motivates you to give back to your community?
I believe everyone benefits from a strong community and I find
being involved very rewarding on a personal level. I am fortunate that
my company believes in being active in the community and it encourages
everyone at the company to get involved personally as well. As
an engineering firm, we focus a lot on STEM initiatives and we support
the personal causes of our employees and clients.

What would you like to be doing when you’re 40?
Forty is only a couple of years away for me, so I would like to be
doing exactly what I am doing now. I work with amazing people and
we get to help to shape our communities through new development
every day.

Volunteer activities: Board of Directors, Manchester Chamber of
Commerce; Treasurer, Manchester Masonic Foundation.

TFMoran’s Portsmouth Office Celebrates the Season by donating to Food Pantry and Solving 2 Mysteries

TFMoran’s Portsmouth office, the MSC Division, celebrated the holiday season on a snowy Friday, just before Christmas. In lieu of their traditional office party with a Secret Santa gift swap and potluck lunch, they decided to do something a little different this year.  In place of the gift swap, the Portsmouth group raised $400 to donate to the local Food Pantry, making the holiday season a bit nicer for those less fortunate. And, instead of the potluck lunch, all ventured over to Mojo’s BBQ & Grill where they enjoyed a change of scenery, along with delicious tavern fare. followed by an adventure at the Portsmouth Escape Room.

Their afternoon adventure consisted of splitting into two groups; one went into the Westower Study and the other went to The Roswell Incident. Each group was given one hour to solve their mystery and escape from their room. Everyone had a great time finding clues and solving the puzzles required to escape, just in time to start the holiday weekend.

Thanks to the TFMoran principals for hosting the celebration, an awesome time was had by all!

TFMoran Celebrates the Christmas Season with Family

On Friday, December 15th, TFMoran’s staff and family celebrated the Christmas season together at the Bedford office. Thanks to Galen, Jenn and Kelsie, the reception area was as festive as could be – complete with a beautifully decorated 9 foot Douglas Fir Christmas tree, and lighted greens strung along the railings of the open stairway. Tidewater Catering Group, of Manchester, put on a festive display of appetizers, fruits, cheeses, vegetables and Christmas cookies that all enjoyed.

Though this year’s theme didn’t mention unique Christmas sweaters, Nick and Lee went along with the Christmas string of lights theme on their matching sweaters – and they even lit up! That’s the spirit we like – “Get Your Festive On” was indeed mentioned on the invitation, after all.

One week into his retirement, after 40 years with TFMoran, Joe Sears blessed us with his presence. He and his wife Suzanne enjoyed the annual TFM Christmas Party, as Joe chatted with former co-workers about his future plans in retirement life.

And, of course, “Santa’s Workshop” was a big hit with the little ones. Christmas craft projects, like foam gingerbread people were decorated with stickers, markers and pom poms for ornaments to hang on the tree. Clear glass ornaments were stuffed with green pom poms to make a grinch face, and white cotton for snowmen -all adorned with creations of hats for custom-made ornaments. Thank you to Jen Porter’s daughter Jocelyn, who was Santa’s helper and organized the craft workshop for the kids.

A big Thank You to the TFMoran principals for hosting a fun and festive family event!

We wish all a Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Best wishes to Joe Sears – 40 Years dedicated to TFMoran!

Everyone at TFMoran wishes Joe Sears the very best in his retirement, well-deserved after working over 40 years with the Company!  In September, on Joe’s 40th Anniversary, TFMoran staff celebrated his 40 Years with an office party dedicated to Joe. And, just before his last official day of working for TFMoran, president Bob Duval gave a few words of congratulations at the Company’s Annual Harvest Lunch:

“If one thing is clear; that is Joe is more than a fellow employee, Joe is an institution. Over the years, Joe has had many roles here: party chief, office manager, blueprint-maker, copier service technician, courier, delivery man, file card indexer, light bulb changer, Christmas decorator, bartender, supply orderer, receptionist, fix-it man, furniture maker, keeper of tools, file manager, grounds crew, and this is just the recent part of his career.  I could go on and on.

Although there is one thing he wasn’t particularly good at – that is, throwing things away.  We had to do that when he wasn’t looking.

In the past few years, perhaps Joe’s most important job has been getting our work down on paper and getting it out the door on time.  It is perhaps too easy to take this for granted, but ultimately our best work does no one any good unless it is plotted, scanned, copied, collated, and mailed or delivered into the right hands at the right time.

Joe was an indispensable part of that process, and we all learned to rely on Joe – often at the last minute – to get it done.  And he never let us down.  This is just one example of the extra effort on the part of every single member of the team that is necessary to become – and remain – a successful company.  The saying goes that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.  And Joe has been a strong link in his many roles for the past 40 years.

So it is with great pleasure that I present this small token of our appreciation and ask everyone to join me and congratulate Joe on 40 years of service to TFMORAN!!

Forty years ago Joe graduated from college in 1976 with a BS in Business Management. He came out of school seeking a job at a Navy shipyard. While waiting for that position to begin, Joe took a temporary position at TFMoran. Lucky for us, temporary became permanent. Beginning in 1977 in Manchester, NH, Joe was among the original TFMoran crew. Beginning as a land surveyor/service technician, Joe tried out almost every position in the office.

We thank Joe for all he has done, and wish him the very best in his golden years! We expect and hope he will drop by now and again, to let us know what he’s been up to in retirement life.
