Benjamin Hodsdon has returned to TFMoran’s Civil Engineering Department as an intern for the summer of 2022. Mr. Hodsdon joined us last summer as part of our internship program, and we’re happy to have him back! He is working in both the Bedford office and the Portsmouth office. Ben is in the Honors Program at the University of New Hampshire, working towards his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Class of 2023.

TFMoran Senior Project Manager Thomas Burns, PE has joined the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 2022. The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit business advocacy organization made up of voluntary members from the region’s business community. He joins a diverse group of professionals from the eight communities that the Chamber represents and looks forward to lending his support and sharing new ideas to help continue the growth and development of the more than 400 businesses that it supports. Tom officially took his seat in January 2022.
TFMoran is proud to be on two Associated Builders and Contractors of New Hampshire and Vermont (ABC NH/VT) Excellence Award-Winning project teams!
Congratulations to Eckman Construction for receiving an Excellence Award for the Newmarket School District Projects. TFMoran worked with Banwell Architects and Eckman Construction in providing structural design for additions and renovations to the Newmarket Jr./Sr. High School and Elementary School. The 50,000 sf additions to the high school included new steel framed 2-story classroom additions, event entry, music and band rooms, kitchen, tech education and a weight room. Renovations included creating a new 2-story cafetorium and stage within the existing building. The 22,000sf additions and renovations to the elementary school included a new load bearing masonry structured gymnasium, lobby, kitchen and classroom additions.
Congratulations to Fulcrum Associates for receiving an Excellence Award for T-Bones Great American Eatery in Concord, NH, the largest stand-alone T-BONES location for Great NH Restaurants. TFMoran supported the efforts of the project architect, Market Square Architects of Portsmouth and builder, Fulcrum Associates of Amherst, providing civil, traffic and structural engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project. The restaurant is 9,420 sf which includes a 260-seat indoor dining room and 35-seat outdoor patio.
The EiC awards honor every member of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. The winning projects selected from entries across NH and VT are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and cost.

Congratulations to TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer, Dylan Cruess, who was once again selected as one of New Hampshire’s 200 Most Influential Business Leaders “New Hampshire 200” by New Hampshire Business Review. TFMoran principals Robert Duval, Nick Golon, and Chris Rice. along with staff and associates attended the New Hampshire 200 Reception, proudly supporting him for this great honor. The celebration was held on December 9, 2021, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester for the 200 prominent individuals featured in the NHBR publication, “New Hampshire 200”. Honorees and guests enjoyed networking, refreshments, and hors d’oeuvres.
This year’s theme was fire and ice, as guests enjoyed a smores bar, ice cream from Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream, music from the Nick Goumas Quartet, a champagne toast, courtesy of sponsor United Healthcare, and a photo booth sponsored by TFMoran.

The BOB Awards is an annual New Hampshire Business Review awards program recognizing the Granite State’s exceptional businesses. The businesses recognized are the ones that offer the best service, pay attention to details, and have the most helpful and eager employees. BOB Award winners from over 90 different categories, ranging from “Best Accounting Firm” to “Best Engineering Firm” to “Best Business Place for Lunch”, are considered to be New Hampshire’s highest caliber businesses offering nothing less than outstanding products and services.
The annual BOB Awards celebration will be held on Thursday, March 10 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord. This year’s theme will be a masquerade ball.
Winners will be notified by early February 2022.
TFMoran celebrated the holiday season last Wednesday with the annual “Harvest Lunch” held at the Bedford Village Inn. Both offices were brought together in the Great Hall for socializing, appetizers, and beverages before the buffet-style lunch was served. The hall was decorated with twinkling holiday lights and festive decorations that were sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit! TFM employees were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the event. Collection boxes will also be available in both offices for the week following, as we put together our donation to the NH Food Bank!
After lunch, TFMoran President Robert Duval wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and spoke about all the wonderful things to be thankful for over the past year. Bob took a moment to congratulate TFMoran for our achievements, including the 2021 NH Business Review “Best of Business” Award for the ninth consecutive year – and voting is now open for the 2022 BOB’s! He then thanked the team for our combined efforts and hard work over the past year to overcome any challenges caused by the pandemic. TFMoran continues to strive for the best and looks forward to another successful year.
Dylan Cruess, COO also addressed the team, speaking about health insurance, the 401k program, and other benefits. He then congratulated individuals celebrating milestones with the company and recognized new employees that have joined within the past year. Dylan also announced the addition of new workspaces being added to both the Bedford and Portsmouth offices.
The TFMoran principals were happy to give out bonuses to the team in appreciation of everyone’s hard work and dedication to the Company.
A special thank you to the TFMoran principals for hosting this very special occasion. It was a great send-off to the Thanksgiving holiday as everyone headed home afterward to spend time with their families. Thank you to The Bedford Village Inn for the amazing food and lovely venue!
TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer, Dylan Cruess was recently selected as one of New Hampshire’s 200 most influential business leaders by NH Business Review. This is Cruess’ second time on the “New Hampshire 200” list, the first was in 2019, the award’s inaugural year.
This designation is a result of a year-long initiative conducted by NH Business Review editors who collected suggestions and nominations from their industry contacts throughout the state to determine the 200 individuals who have made the greatest impact on the Granite State’s economy, business climate and the state as a whole.
All the selected individuals were asked to complete a questionnaire for the New Hampshire 200 second edition publication to be published this fall. When asked what is most exciting about the company’s future, Cruess answered, “Over the past year we adopted an ownership transition plan, added four senior engineers as Principals to our leadership team. The ability for TFMoran to thrive and adapt during this challenging time has confirmed my belief and trust in our extraordinary team.”
Mr. Cruess joined TFMoran, Inc. in 2001 after graduating from Bates College earning a bachelor’s degree in Economics. In 2013 he became an owner and Chief Operating Officer of TFMoran when the company was transferred to four senior employees. Mr. Cruess is very involved in the local community and serves on the board of directors for numerous organizations.
The New Hampshire 200 Reception will be held on December 9, 2021 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown to recognize the prominent business leaders.
TFM celebrated the end of the week with some Halloween festivities last Friday! Employees enjoyed fall favorites from the Puritan Back Room including chicken tenders and mac & cheese! For those with a sweet tooth, Maryanne Murray brought in some festive desserts: witch’s finger cookies and mummy apple pies!
The winners of the Reese’s and candy corn jars were announced, which had been on display all week for employees to guess. Mike Krzeminski had the closest guess on the Reese’s, while Steve Bibeau was closest on the candy corn. Members from the Civil, Structural, and Landscape Architecture teams faced off to claim victory in the “Pumpkin Strongman” competition, which Structural Engineer Ezequiel Galvan won. Others tested their speed in mummy wrapping a colleague. Marty Gavin and Sharon Monahan won the prize with the quickest wrap, but Julia Chartier and Diane Martineau definitely earned style points! A few daring souls dressed in costume hoping to receive votes from their peers for the grand prize: a $50 gift card to Market Basket! Jeff Tate pulled out all the stops, sporting an inflatable piggyback on the witch costume, which was voted winner, although honorable mentions included Alex Croteau’s Indiana Jones and Chris Chiaramonte’s koala!
The TFM Portsmouth division also celebrated the spooky holiday with Halloween-themed festivities! Employees were invited to dress in costume and eat chilling snacks from Buffalo Wild Wings. Names were drawn of who would be mummified with toilet paper, and all were encouraged to participate in a pumpkin carving contest!
Jason Cook, EIT has joined TFMoran, Inc. as a Civil Project Engineer in the Portsmouth office. Mr. Cook received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he received an Excellence in Engineering Award in 2017. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Civil Engineering program. Mr. Cook has his Engineer in Training certification in the state of Connecticut and is a member of the American Society for Civil Engineers. His experience includes an internship in Technical Services for the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford, where he worked on the expansion of water services beyond the Hartford area. Mr. Cook is a proud Eagle Scout and has also volunteered to do missionary work for H.O.M.E. in Maine, Habitat for Humanity in West Virginia, and Y.S.O.P. in New York City.
TFMoran Structural Engineers provided design services for the Concord Housing Authority Crutchfield Apartments retrofit project in Concord, New Hampshire, which was featured in the Green Energy Times October issue! Resilient Buildings Group (RBG) of Concord, NH built a team for the Crutchfield Apartments project that included TFMoran for structural engineering.
Some barriers for the project deserved extra attention. The fact that the building is constructed of concrete modules presented difficulties that could not be addressed without careful planning, including a detailed investigation of the structure. The concrete floors include cores and steel prestressing strands, which needed to be located. Some of the installation required drilling holes in the floors, walls, or ceilings, and drilling through prestress strands can compromise an entire building.
Since the new heating system was to be mounted on the roof, this location placement required additional planning to verify that the roof was properly reinforced to manage the weight.
