Congratulations to Bank of NH Stage for receiving a Plan NH 2020 Merit Award of Excellence

TFMoran is honored to be a part of the award-winning project team for the renovation and rehabilitation of the historic Concord Theatre, now known as Bank of NH Stage. The theatre, owned by the Capitol Center for the Arts, was a recent recipient of the Plan NH 2020 Merit Award of Excellence.  The project team included the developer The Duprey Companies;  construction manager Milestone Engineering and Construction; and architect Dennis Mires, PA The Architects. TFMoran provided both civil and structural engineering services for the preservation of the 140-year-old building located on South Main Street.

Plan NH describes the award-winning Bank of NH Stage:

“In spite of the challenges of working with such an old building to get it to where they wanted, today the venue is eclectic and flexible.  It can easily be walked or biked to from within the downtown, and it is on a bus route.  In addition, its flexible space means that a younger generation can stand and move with its music – or, other performances can be done in a more intimate setting.  It is a welcome addition to an already-vibrant downtown.”

Each year, Plan NH holds its annual Merit Award Program to honor exemplary built environment projects that have a positive impact on the community. All nominations are reviewed by a jury of engineers, planners, architects, and others. The jury selects projects that demonstrate social responsibility, Smart Growth principals, and creative approaches to collaboration and cooperation. This year, due to covid-19 pandemic, the presentation was held virtually.

Congratulations to the other 2020 recipients of the Plan NH Merit Award of Excellence:  MoCo Arts (Keene)23 Ammonoosuc (Littleton);  and Madbury Public Library

Congrats to NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire for a successful Manchester West Side RENEW project!

As a proud supporter, TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess, COO was invited by Executive Director Robert Tourigny of NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire to the unveiling of their completed West Side RENEW project at 459 Granite Street in Manchester. Typically, a ribbon-cutting ceremony would have marked the completion of this special project, but due to the current pandemic situation, instead of a group gathering, the property was shown social-distanced to the fundraisers who helped make this redeveloped housing project possible. Last fall TFMoran donated $5,000 in support of this important housing initiative to redevelop and preserve properties on Manchester’s West Side. The building was previously an uninhabitable and was purchased at a tax auction from the City of Manchester in 2018. Through a variety of funding sources and with the help of the business community, 459 Granite Street, with its cheery yellow doors, is now home to four working families. The one and two-bedroom affordable-apartment rentals include heat and hot water for between $1,000 and $1,050 per month.

Congratulations to NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire for receiving the “2020 Housing for Everyone” award by the TD Charitable Foundation in support of the West Side RENEW initiative!

TFMoran Sponsors American Society of Civil Engineers’ New Hampshire Scholarship Golf Outing

On August 21st, 2020, the American Society of Civil Engineers New Hampshire Section (ASCE-NH) hosted their 2020 Annual Scholarship Golf Outing. The scholarship program was started in 2000 to encourage high school students to pursue an engineering degree (in any discipline, not just civil).  Annually, ASCE-NH awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors and civil engineering students at the University of New Hampshire, with the value of the scholarship’s dependent on the success of their fund raising.  ASCE-NH issued a record $20,000 in scholarships in 2020 and is hoping to at least match that effort in 2021.

The tournament was held at the Beaver Meadow Golf Club in Concord, NH. Due to Covid-19, special precautions were observed promoting social distancing and mask use which resulted in a safe and fun day for all those that participated.  The tournament included a continental breakfast, shotgun start, lunch, raffle, contests, and games. TFMoran Senior Project Manager and ASCE-NH Treasurer, Nick Golon played in the tournament this year and came home with a new golf club courtesy of the raffle.  The TFM Team didn’t finish first but scored a rare Eagle (two under par) on a par 4 courtesy of Kurt Nelson knocking in a 120-yard chip.  That shot along with the fantastic weather made for a great day for the Team.

TFMoran was a proud PLATINUM Sponsor of this ASCE-NH Scholarship fund raising event, along with Continental Paving and WSP.

Thank you to ASCE-NH for supporting young and aspiring engineers and putting on another great event!

New Survey Drone Services are Off the Ground!

Eric Salovitch, TFMoran Certified Drone Pilot

TFMoran is excited to announce we have launched new survey services via drone, operated by Survey Technician and FAA Part 107 Certified Pilot, Eric Salovitch, SIT. Eric works out of TFMoran’s Seacoast Division office and is available for any project that would benefit from this new technology.

New Drone Survey Services include:

  • Aerial Mapping
  • Aerial Imagery
  • Structural Inspections
  • Construction Monitoring
  • Volume Calculations
  • Video Inspections
  • Mapping for Conceptual Design

TFMoran’s first drone project was to produce a topographic survey on a private residential road to depict low areas which are causing drainage issues. The area of interest was relatively flat with no obvious areas of relief. TFMoran were able to utilize UAV technology to limit the time the field crew had to spend in the roadway. We were able to capture millions of points along the roadway. That data was adjusted to survey grade control. The client is now not only able to identify low points in the pavement solving their drainage issues, but can also identify every pothole along the stretch of road.

There are many advantages of using UAV.  We were able to keep field crews safe and out of the traveled way. We were able to provide the client with more data. We have a survey grade location every 0.3’ compared to conventional data which is 45’ +/-. Since this is a private community, TFMoran provided a few aerial images to the client which is a by-product of our survey. It doesn’t take us any additional time to capture these photos and is a great complimentary product.

We are looking forward to our next Aerial Mapping project!

TFMoran supports mask-making efforts to Help the Hunger cause

Dahriz Colwell
Dahriz Colwell

TFMoran’s seacoast division manager and a principal of the company, Corey Colwell, LLS, is proud to share some positive and personal news amid this COVID-19 pandemic. His wife, Dahriz Colwell, has been busy at her sewing machine creating masks that she donates to help keep people safe during the pandemic. Dahriz has now created over 40 assorted colors and patterns of masks to choose from and has made over 350 masks since she started this initiative in early March. The masks are hand-wash and air-dry only because of the interfacing filter material in the middle. Not only has Dahriz supplied her husband’s Portsmouth office staff with enough masks, but also the TFMoran corporate office in Bedford, NH.

Dahriz continues to set up a table in their neighborhood for anyone who would like a free mask. Though her masks are offered at no cost, many of their neighbors have generously donated more than $400 so far, and TFMoran has made a $500 contribution to her cause. Dahriz’s cause is very special and dear to her heart, and by making these masks she is bringing awareness of her cause to others who want to help. Dahriz’s hometown village in the Philippines desperately needs help to feed their struggling families during this pandemic. By creating a GoFundMe page called “Help the Hunger”, Dahriz hopes this will be an easy way for people to make a donation.

“We are very fortunate to be living in a good town, safe state and country that provide for those in need. I feel blessed. There are areas of the world not so fortunate. My hometown of Mangagoy Bislig, Philippines is a good example. The town and most of the country is shut down, no work and little to no government help. We are organizing a fund raiser to help feed those less fortunate than us. 100% of all proceeds will go to feed the hungry and their struggling families. Any amount you can contribute to this cause is greatly appreciated.”
– Dahriz Colwell

Dahriz has all the support of her family and friends in her efforts of making a difference in people’s lives during these challenging times. “I think this a great cause, I am proud of her for all that she has done,” says her husband Corey. “Since we were married 16 years ago, she has been helping her village in any way that we can afford. This is the hardest they have been hit in a long time.”

Tristan ColwellEven their 5-year old son Tristan is happy to help, from setting up the mask display table in the neighborhood, to cutting fabric and even a little sewing. Every little bit helps to make a difference.
